Il  20, 21 e 24 Luglio pp.vv., il prof. Antoine Alemany del CNRS di Grenoble, terrà tre incontri della durata di due ore ciascuno sugli aspetti applicativi della Magnetoidrodinamica (MHD). Questa studia l’interazione tra i campi magnetici e i fluidi conduttori, e rappresenta quindi una sintesi tra il Magnetismo e la Fluidodinamica. Gli incontri mirano ad illustrare le potenzialità offerte da questa disciplina, che ha un’ampissima gamma di possibili applicazioni, dalla conversione statica dell’energia, ai processi chimici guidati, la deposizione di materiali, la propulsione nello Spazio e in mare, e numerosi altri.

L’incontro non dà diritto a CFU.

Gli incontri si terranno in Aula Mocci a partire dalle ore 9:00

The dynamo effect in the fast breeder reactor; numerical simulation and experiment on the superphoenix power plant.

The dynamo effect is a phenomena which explain the presence of magnetic field on the earth. This phenomena consists in the self-production of magnetic field by a conducting flow of appropriate configuration. It is admitted that the presence of Helicity the combination of rotation and translation is an important ingredient for self-generation of magnetic field.

But the principal parameter which control the dynamo effect is the magnetic Reynolds number that needs to be high enough to produce the phenomena. Generally in the earth experiment this number is too low and consequently the observation of dynamo effect is almost impossible.

Nevertheless recently some experimental facility specially designed was able to reach the critical condition.

Concerning the fast breeder reactor using a very large quantity of sodium the question about the possible dynamo effect was asked especially (but not exclusively) in the secondary pump of superphenix were the magnetic Reynolds number is high and is associated to the presence of helicity.

The corrosion process of a metallic wall by a liquid metal flow. Theory and experiment.

In some concept of the fusion reactor, the blanket, which surround the core of the reactor constitutes the heat exchanger by collecting the radiation and transporting the thermal power to a water flow for steam production supplying a turbine and alternator. The liquid metal circulating in the blanket is constituted by the eutectic lithium lead for nuclear reason.

On the other hand the plasma on which the fusion reaction is produced at extremely high temperature needs to be confined by a strong magnetic field which interact with the blanket.

But the stainless steel wall of the blanket are corroded by the liquid metal flow. The question that are at the origin of the seminar and of the Thesis of Abdallah Kharicha is Does the magnetic field have any influence on corrosion?

The flow control by magnetic field in electroplating

Electroplating is a part of electrochemistry largely used in industrial process like Jewellery connectors etc. the objective for connectic is to improve the electrical conductivity by recovering the connector by a layer of gold.

Generally the process use what is cold continuous electro plating in which the connectors are continuously traveling in an electrochemical bath ( a small channel open at the free surface) with the electrodes at both side of the channel and the connector being the anode.

In this circumstance the boundary layer that control the mass transfer is governed by the hydrodynamics of the bath and this generates strong no homogeneity between up and down stream of the circular connector. Thus the gold deposition is poor behind the cylinder the connector. The objective of this study is to see if an applied magnetic field is able suppress this disagreement.

Nel mese di settembre si terrà il seminario “Fault location and isolation and restoration systems” organizzato dal prof. Fabrizio Pilo in collaborazione con Enel. Il seminario, della durata di 10 ore, dà diritto a 1 CFU.

International Sulcis CCS Summer School 2017 – Sotacarbo SpA | Ricerca e sviluppo di Energie pulite  

The Sulcis Summer School on CCS, organised with the support of universities, research institutes and major companies in the sector, aims to offer to participants a broader view of all the possible issues that revolve around a theme of urgent relevance today, such as the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere. It also provides information and documentation on all the technological sides of the CCS subject – including an update of ongoing projects worldwide. Lessons are mixed with practical training in the “field”. All registered students are enabled to access the e-learning platform of ENEA ICT Technical Unit where they can join a special learning program on CCS.
